Buffalo Bills Sign Intriguing Offensive Weapon For One Year
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills have signed wide receiver Chase Claypool to a one-year deal, the team announced.

Claypool split the 2023 campaign between the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins, playing in 12 games and logging eight catches for 77 yards and a touchdown.

There was a time when Claypool was one of the more intriguing young receivers in football.

Claypool, who played his collegiate football at Notre Dame, was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He appeared in every contest during his rookie season and was impressive, hauling in 62 receptions for 873 yards and nine scores.

The following year, Claypool’s production plateaued, as he played in 15 games and caught 59 passes for 860 yards while reaching the end zone twice.

By this point, his attitude had begun to wear thin on Mike Tomlin and the Steelers.

Pittsburgh gave him another shot in 2022, and through eight contests, Claypool tallied 32 grabs for 311 yards and a touchdown, but midway through the year, the Steelers traded him to the Bears.

The 25-year-old participated in seven games in Chicago that season, but be barely made an impact, recording just 14 receptions for 140 yards.

Claypool stands 6-foot-4 and weighs in the neighborhood of 240 pounds, so he has the physical profile of an elite wide receiver. He also ran an impressive 4.42-second 40-yard dash coming out of college.

However, in spite of all of his physical tools, Claypool has been unable to put it all together on the NFL level.

He should get a solid opportunity with the Bills after the club subtracted both Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason, so we’ll see if he can find his way in Buffalo.
