Police officer involved in Scottie Scheffler arrest hospitalized

One of the police officers involved in Scottie Scheffler’s PGA Championship arrest on Friday is hospitalized after allegedly suffering injuries while being dragged by Scheffler’s car.

An incident report released by the Louisville Metro Police Department claims that the officer who attempted to stop Scheffler’s vehicle was dragged to the ground and sustained “pain, swelling and abrasions” as a result of the incident, according to Mark Schlabach of ESPN. 

The report states that the officer, identified as Det. Gillis, was directing traffic in the middle of westbound lanes when Scheffler pulled into the lanes.

Gillis was wearing a full uniform and a “high-visibility yellow reflective rain jacket” and attempted to give instructions. The report states that Scheffler then “refused to comply and accelerated forward,” dragging the officer to the ground.

Gillis was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation. In addition to his minor injuries, the report stated that his uniform pants were “damaged beyond repair.”

Scheffler was arrested as a result of the incident and is facing four charges, one of which is a felony. Despite this, he still made his 10:08 a.m. tee time at the PGA Championship.

The entrance to Valhalla Golf Club was impacted by traffic problems after police responded to a fatal accident involving a man who was struck by a passenger shuttle early Friday morning. Scheffler attributed the incident to a misunderstanding, saying he was unaware of the accident and was following instructions he had been previously given in order to enter the course.
